1.  Pirates:

Come dressed as a pirate!

Invitations – Print on parchment and burn the edges to give an authentic look.

Decorations: Red and black balloons and streamers, pirate flags, black fabric tablecloth, wine barrels, skeleton,

Loot Bags – Include eye patches, chocolate coins, tattoos, bandanas, plastic compass etc

Games – Treasure hunt, pirate ship piñata, hire a pirate entertainer to visit, or a balloon man to make swords

Food – Treasure chest or pirate ship cake, cupcakes with skull and crossbones on top, marinated chicken wings, eyeball jelly (jelly in a cup with an eyeball lolly set into the top), fish and chips, fruit punch

2.  Jungle:

Come dressed as your favourite jungle animal, in animal print clothes, or as an explorer in khaki and a safari hat.

Invitations – Cut green cardboard into the shape of a palm leaf and write or print party details onto it.

Decorations: Potted plants and trees, lots of stuffed or toy jungle animals, hang plastic snakes from trees, animal print tablecloth, mosquito netting, play animal sounds in the background, use chalk to draw animal footprints on the ground, hang green streamers to look like vines

Loot Bags – Toy animals, lolly animals, animal stickers, plastic snakes,

Games – Face painting, tiger piñata, animal safari (i.e. treasure hunt), Tarzan yelling contest, pin the tail on the tiger, Tarzan says (i.e. Simon says)

Food – Sandwiches in animal shapes, jelly snakes, animal shaped biscuits, trail mix, banana chips, a monkey or tiger cake.

3.  Superhero:

Come dressed as your favourite superhero!

Invitations – Made to look like a page from a comic book

Decorations: Use laminated comic book covers for placemats, action figures as table centrepieces, Gotham City or Metropolis banners, capes draped over furniture,  ‘Wanted’ posters with pictures of favourite villans, balloons and streamers in your child’s superhero’s colours.

Loot Bags – plastic superhero rings, stickers, masks, small figurines, green “kryptonite” lollies

Games – “Rescue” (aka Hide and Seek), face painting, Pass the Kryptonite (i.e Pass the Parcel), tug of war, spider web fights (using silly string cans), superhero dance off, running races

Food – Superhero shaped sandwiches and biscuits, cupcakes topped with plastic superhero rings, spiderman snowcones (red and blue syrup), Superman cake,

4.  Favourite colour.

Come dressed as your favourite colour.  (This one is super-easy if you don’t want to bother everybody with having to come up with a great outfit – all they need to do is throw on a t-shirt of their favourite colour!)

Invitations – Printed on multi-coloured paper

Decorations: balloons and streamer’s in a rainbow of colours, rainbows, paper coloured lanterns

Loot Bags – pencils, crayons, balloons, colourful lollies, rainbow stickers

Games – Drawing & painting (pin a roll of butchers paper to the fence and let them go wild with the paints),

Food – think bright colours; fruit kebabs, frankfurts, orange juice, cupcakes with coloured icing, jelly, fairy bread, fruit juice,

5.  Creepy Crawly

Decorations – green and brown balloons and streamers, green tablecloth with scattered fake bugs and creepy crawlies on top, hang plastic snakes from trees, hang butterflies from the ceiling using fishing line,

Loot Bags – lolly worms and snakes, plastic bugs, fake snakes, stickers,

Games – Hire a reptile wrangler, spider piñata, face painting, bug hunt, insect statues (while music plays the children dance as an insect then freeze when the music stops.  First child to move is eliminated until you get your winner).

Food – snake or caterpillar birthday cake, cupcakes with bug-shaped edible images, butterfly shaped biscuits, ant fairybread (using chocolate sprinkles), gummy snakes, green jelly
