School holidays are a time of fun and heartbreak.
Here are 5 ideas to get your kids involved with their clothes and their bedrooms.
1. Get your kids painting their own clothes.
Kids love to be creative – buy some white t-shirts or long sleeved tees and let the children express their creative side by using fabric paint. Fabric paints can be purchased at any craft store.
2. Let the kids experience making their own clothing transfers
Unlike painting a white t-shirt straight onto the fabric, by using fabric transfer crayons, the kids get to draw their design onto plain paper and you can then iron their design onto their t-shirt for them . Stencil crayons can be found at craft stores. Riot art has kits starting at $9.99 for a pack of about 5 or colours.
3. Make cleaning the room fun
Boys are generally the worst at cleaning their rooms. You can make it fun by setting up a basketball hoop over their laundry basket. when they take their clothes off at the end of the day they get to turn putting their clothes into their dirty washing basket into a game.
4. Design a carry all for jewellery
Girls love their jewellery and trinkets but they can end up lost in a meddly of mayhem in drawers and boxes. Hanging pockets are ideal to sort these items but they can be rather dull. Go to any craft store and pick up a bag of sticky sponge shapes. These can be applied to the pockets of a hanging shoe organiser. My sister handmade and hand painted me a similar hanging pocket caddy which I cherished. You can hand sew a three pocket caddy, or simply pick up a shoe organiser which your girls can decorate and hang in their wardrobe.
5. Make their own jewellery
Girls and even some boys love making their own jewellery. All craft stores have jewellery making kits. Boys like something plainer like a great stone or simple disc hanging on leather. girls love to work with beads in all colours and designs. Let them play with beads and design something pretty to wear.
Unless you are a very crafty you may find you have to buy many items to make these kids holiday ideas. I have tried to keep the costs to between $5-$10 per child. Have fun. Hopefully while the kids you are amused you can take 5 minutes for yourself.
