Have you ever had a note sent home in the lunchbox for putting ‘sometimes’ food in there? Once, when my little guy was at kinder, the entire kinder group had ‘nutritious lunch box ideas’ flyers put into their lockers because I was caught including a choc chip muesli bar in his lunch. Bad mother! Another time, he had cheese cubes sent home because they were a choking hazard!?
We almost caused a nuclear meltdown last year when the kids stayed over at Nanna’s house on a school night and she was responsible for making their lunches and dropping them at school the next day. What came home was a note from the teachers about the ‘inappropriate’ little brown paper bag she’d included with chocolates and snakes (“for a little treat”). Miss 9 told me that when she’d taken it out of her lunch box, all the kids in the room made an ‘ooohhhhh’ noise and gathered around it!! lol!
That said, I have really got some great ideas from the Fact Sheets sent home at various times from the health department via school… here are some of our favourites:
- Raisin bread with a tiny bit of butter
- Pikelets made with mashed banana
- Rice cakes with jam sandwiched together with a bit of greaseproof paper between to stop them going soggy
- Mini wheats breakfast cereal
- Baked beans, and sometimes canned corn.
How about you? Any lunchbox naughtiness or great ideas?
